I first read this stanza of Losers at age 14. Around 1979 ish. It was after my first serious mental health crisis.
Since then, I’ve used it as my mantra to focus on when sad thoughts are a problem.
Don’t worry. There’s lots more tools in my tinnitus, hyperacusis, and chronic pain coping toolbox, e.g. meds like SSRIs, mental health self-care tools, plus professional support as needed.
