I’m happy to share that my new article was published in the Winter 2024 issue of Tinnitus Today. The focus is nurturing healthy digital habits among today’s youth.

Children and teenagers using headphones and earbuds linked to laptops, TV screens, tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles have become almost as common to see as kids wearing backpacks. A recent research review (that I co-authored) found widespread negative impacts from recreational and educational screen time on the health and well-being of kids and teens.

Use of devices at school, especially smartphones or cell phones, has become a hot topic for education authorities, parents or care givers, and youth. The Tinnitus Today article includes specific age-based recommendations on safer screen use for students from preschool to high school.

The bottom line is there needs to be a balanced approach for children and teens to access technologies in an increasingly digital world while mitigating health and safety risks at school and at home.
